Volmer Bahner (Denmark). Hand-cut hardstones & mother-of-pearl on black ground pendant. Acquired at a Danish auction house, with provenance.
This oval plaque depicts a classic naturalistic scene: a little bird perched on a flowering branch, worked in subtly coloured hardstones and shimmering mother-of-pearl — green, coral, agate and shell set against deep black. It is mounted in a decorative yellow-metal frame with applied floral and foliate detailing and fine wirework, with a pendant bail at the top.
